Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates it. That provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to respond and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can automatically provide routine technical and usage information:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure visits, popular pages, and navigation patterns. Analytics services combine those measurements into traffic reports. A browser can reject cookies, although some site functions may then work differently.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Mitchell County Criminal History does not compile, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes directions to records held by the Mitchell County Sheriff, North Carolina courts, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Public access to agency records is governed by the North Carolina Public Records Law, while G.S. 15A-152 addresses unlawful dissemination of specified expunged information. Visitor data is not assembled into a third-party criminal record or an FCRA consumer report.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy notices, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information submitted to them. Review the applicable provider policy before entering a query because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to court portals, sheriff and state-agency pages, legal-aid resources, or outside tools. The destination's policy applies after leaving this website, so read it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be received by:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet system can guarantee perfect security, however, and we cannot promise that an unauthorized access event will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A verified report that a minor supplied such data will be handled with a deletion request.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary by residence and applicable law. North Carolina protections include the Unfair and Deceptive Trade Practices Act, G.S. 75-1.1, and the Identity Theft Protection Act, Article 2A of Chapter 75. Subject to the law that applies, you may ask to:
